Alexander Pekoff (@alexanderpekoff) is one of the most inspirational people I have ever met.

Alex just finished a long distance run from Niagara Falls to Montauk Point to raise money for the Adopt a Boxer Rescue, who rescued his dog Lucas. He ran 565 miles in 14 days, which was an average of 39 miles every day. Just to be clear, that is one and a half marathons….every day for 14 days in a row! The last day, he was a bit behind schedule so he ran 102 miles straight. Yes, you read that right. 102 miles!

Throughout our interview my jaw dropped so many times and he left me speechless.

Anyone who’s hiked in the Grand Canyon knows that hiking to the bottom and back up is an extreme challenge not to be attempted by the inexperienced. It can be a fatal journey. Alex ran rim-to-rim-to-rim. Twice. In other words he went from the South Rim to the North Rim and back to the South Rim.

But perhaps the most crazy and amazing thing he’s done is ride a bicycle from Key West, Florida, the most southern point in the United States, to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, the most northern point accessible by road. He rode from the Atlantic Ocean to the Indian Ocean. He rode 5,837 miles in 86 days. Mind blowing.

The stories Alex has about bear encounters on desolate roads in Canada are truly extraordinary. And in this episode he tells me about some interesting uses for bear spray. Possibly my favorite part was when he talked about how he prepares mentally for his journeys. And on top of all that, he makes YouTube videos to share his adventures with the world.

If you’d like to donate to Adopt a Boxer Rescue for Alexander, you can do so on his GoFundMe page.
