Listen on:

Bogdana Voicu (@bogdanamv) was born in communist Romania before the Iron Curtain fell. Growing up, she didn’t yearn for travel because she didn’t know it was even in the realm of possibilities. She couldn’t miss what she didn’t even know about. But her globetrotting half-brother changed all of that when he told her of the possibility to work abroad.

She packed up and moved to the Maldives and got a job in tourism. Then upon finishing university, she moved to Dubai and worked in hospitality.

After winning the Green Card Lottery, she decided to move to the United States. She has worked in tourism now for many years and now runs North American operations for G Adventures, a global tour company. In this episode, we discuss the state of the travel industry as well as her Romanian roots.

If you enjoyed this episode, check out the episode I did with Bruce Poon Tip, the founder of G Adventures. Or with Danielle and Wilson, two G Adventures guides who traveled the world as a couple. Or with Shelby Schmitz who worked as a guide and bus driver for 5 years around the United States. Hope you enjoy them!
