Anthony Gray is the chef de cuisine at Le Bernadin, one of the top-rated restaurants in New York City, and in the world. He works under famous chef Eric Ripert in this three Michelin star restaurant. In this episode, Anthony shares so many inspirational stories about his pursuit of his dream of one day working in a three-star Michelin restaurant. When he was in high school, he took a cooking class and he shares a story about how a red pepper changed his life forever.
Growing up in New Jersey, his grandmother taught him how to cook. He attended culinary school but dropped out when he found he was learning much more on the job at a restaurant. After a stint working as a chef in the Virgin Islands on St. Thomas, he moved down to New Orleans. There, he worked for a restaurant called Stella, which was the top restaurant down there.
But he still had his eye on the prize: three Michelin stars. So he moved back to New York City and landed a job working for legendary chef Eric Ripert at Le Bernadin. He talks about how much Ripert has taught him and how he feels about the state of fine dining in a post-coronavirus world.
